Scissor Lift Hire and Sales in Sydney and Brisbane
When your project requires height, stability, and efficiency, you need reliable equipment. Uphire offers a premium range of scissor lifts for hire across Sydney and Brisbane. Our fleet includes compact electric units for narrow indoor spaces and heavy-duty diesel machines for construction sites. Each machine is site-ready, well maintained, and supported by local experts.
Whether you are managing a large infrastructure project or a short-term warehouse fit-out, we provide the technical expertise and equipment needed to keep your team safe and productive at any height.
Choose the Right Scissor Lift for Your Terrain
Not all jobs are created equal. Choosing the right power source and tyre type is the first step to a safe and productive site.
Electric Scissor Lifts
Best for: Indoor work such as fit-outs, warehouse maintenance, and flat surfaces such as concrete slabs.
Features: Non-marking tyres, zero emissions, and quiet operation. Our compact models can fit through standard doorways and into passenger elevators.
Rough Terrain & Diesel Scissor Lifts
Best for: Outdoor applications such as construction, challenging terrain, and residential developments.
Features: Four-wheel drive, high ground clearance, and levelling outriggers. These machines provide larger platforms and higher weight capacities for multiple workers and heavy tools.

Our Scissor Lift Selection Guide
To ensure you get the most cost-effective machine for your task, consider these three factors:
-
Working Height vs. Platform Height: Remember that “Working Height” is generally 2 metres above the platform height (where your reach actually ends).
-
Platform Capacity: Will you be lifting just a technician and tools, or heavy materials like HVAC ducting or glazing? Always check the Rated Capacity (RC).
-
Access Restrictions: Measure the narrowest point the machine must pass through. We offer “Micro” scissor lifts for exceptionally tight spaces.

Scissor Lift Hire FAQs
What is the difference between a "Yellow Card" and a "WP License"?
In Australia, scissor lift operation is regulated by height. For scissor lifts, or any elevated work platform with a platform height under 11 meters, you generally require a Yellow Card (Trained Operator Card) from the Elevating Work Platform Association (EWPA). For machines with a platform height of 11 meters or higher, you must hold a National High Risk Work License (Class WP).
Can I use a scissor lift on a sloped surface or ramp?
Standard electric slab scissor lifts are designed for firm, level ground and typically have a tilt sensor that disables the lift if the slope exceeds 1.5 to 2 degrees. If your site has an incline, you will likely need a Rough Terrain Scissor Lift equipped with hydraulic outriggers. These outriggers level the base of the machine before elevation, allowing for safe operation on uneven ground.
How long does the battery last on an electric scissor lift?
A well-maintained battery should typically last for a full 8-hour shift under “normal” use, which involves occasional lifting and repositioning. However, heavy driving or continuous lifting will drain the battery faster. To prevent downtime, we recommend plugging the machine into a standard 240V outlet every night to ensure it is fully charged for the next day’s work.
Are there common "hidden" costs like fuel or cleaning fees?
We strive for complete transparency in our hire agreements. However, clients should be aware of standard variables: diesel machines are delivered with a full tank and should be returned full to avoid refuelling charges; machines returned with excessive mud, concrete splatter, or paint may incur a cleaning fee; and transport fees are calculated based on the distance between your site and our nearest branch.
Do I need to wear a safety harness inside a scissor lift?
According to Australian Standard AS 2550.10, a harness is generally not mandatory in a scissor lift, as it is a “stay-within-the-guardrails” platform, unlike other aerial work platforms such as a telescopic boom lift or a cherry picker, where it is a legal requirement. However, many Tier-1 construction sites and safety managers mandate harness use as part of their specific site safety policies. We recommend checking your site’s specific SWMS (Safe Work Method Statement) before beginning work.
What maintenance documentation is provided with the machine?
Every Uphire rental includes a “Logbook” stored in a weatherproof container on the machine. This logbook contains the machine’s full service history, daily pre-start checklists, and proof of its 90-day and annual inspections. These documents are essential for site compliance and are frequently audited by site managers to ensure the machine is safe to operate.
Can I pick up the scissor lift myself with a trailer?
Smaller electric models, such as the 13ft or 19ft slab lifts, can often be towed on a high-capacity plant trailer if your vehicle has the appropriate towing capacity and braking system. However, larger electric models and all diesel rough-terrain lifts are too heavy for standard trailers. These must be moved by our professional tilt-tray transport fleet to ensure they are handled safely and delivered in accordance with transport regulations.
What is a Damage Waiver, and do I still need my own insurance?
Uphire offers a Damage Waiver ( 12.5% of the hire fee) which limits your financial liability for accidental damage or theft of any of our access equipment, provided the terms of the hire agreement are met. This is not a substitute for Public Liability insurance, which most commercial sites require the contractor to hold independently to cover third-party risks.
